Maes Martin is the new improved village playground. It has recently undergone a massive re-design and is a big hit with the local children of all ages, a true multi activity play area.
The Maes Martin Project MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) was sponsored with a grant from Barclays Spaces for Sport of over £50,000. Barclays have since granted £2,000 for equipment to be used on the project and at the Primary School, staff and volunteer training secured a further £15,000.
This money has been used to arrange courses such as: First Aid, Health and Safety, and various Sports leader awards. As a result of attending the courses one young volunteer from Llanfechell has been successful in achieving a 12 month apprenticeship with the Everton Football Foundation during which time he will liaise with Llanfechell School to provide an afterschool football class. He will also go on to do a NVQ to provide other sports projects in the village such as Hockey and Volleyball.
The Barclays grant will also be used to fund and organise sports events on the MUGA . For more information on the project or volunteer work please contact us.
